2048 Unblocked

by Gabriele Cirulli

Slide, merge, repeat: 2048 unblocked is the number puzzle that went viral in 2014, and it is still just as hard to put down. Every move shifts all the tiles at once, and matching numbers combine into one. This copy is hosted directly on Classroom 7x, so it loads straight from the site with no waiting around.

About 2048

Gabriele Cirulli created the game in March 2014 and released it as open-source software, and it quickly spread across the web. His idea built on an earlier game called 1024 by Veewo Studio and is similar in spirit to Threes by Asher Vollmer. The rules fit in one sentence: slide the tiles, and when two with the same number collide, they merge into a single tile worth double. Those simple rules hide a surprising amount of strategy, which is exactly why people keep coming back.

Each turn, every tile on the 4x4 board slides as far as it can in the direction you choose, and then a new 2 or 4 tile appears in an empty square. That means each move affects the whole grid, not just one piece. Your goal is to build a tile labeled 2048, but reaching it does not have to end your game, since you can keep going toward even larger numbers. Your best score is saved in your browser, so there is always a record to beat.

How to Play 2048

  1. Press an arrow key or one of the W, A, S, D keys to slide every tile on the grid in that direction.
  2. Watch for two tiles with the same number touching as they slide, because they merge into one tile with double the value.
  3. Notice the new 2 or 4 tile that appears after each move and think about where it landed.
  4. Keep combining tiles step by step, from 4 to 8 to 16 and onward, toward the target tile.
  5. Avoid filling all sixteen squares, since the game ends when the board is full and no merges are left.

Tips and Tricks

  • Pick one corner and keep your biggest tile parked there. Pulling it out of the corner is the fastest way to scramble your board.
  • Rely on just two or three directions most of the time. If your big tile sits in the bottom left, favor down and left moves.
  • Build a descending chain along one edge, such as 256, 128, 64, 32, so merges roll smoothly toward your corner tile.
  • Avoid the direction that pulls tiles away from your corner unless you have no other choice, since it can drop a small tile into that key spot.
  • Think one move ahead. Before sliding, check whether the move keeps your chain intact and leaves room for the next new tile.

2048 FAQ

What happens after you make the 2048 tile?

You win the round, but you do not have to stop there. You can choose to keep playing and push past the target toward bigger tiles like 4096, as long as you still have space and moves left.

When is the game over?

The game ends when all sixteen squares are filled and no two neighboring tiles share the same number, so no slide can change the board. Keeping a few spaces open gives you room to recover from awkward new tiles.

Is my best score saved?

Yes. Your best score is stored in your browser, so it will still be there the next time you open the game on the same device and browser. Clearing your browser data will reset it.

Can I play 2048 on a school Chromebook?

Yes. 2048 runs in the Chrome browser, so it works on Chromebooks, Windows PCs and Macs, and it also supports touch screens on tablets and phones. Nothing needs to be installed.

Is 2048 free to play?

Yes, 2048 is completely free on Classroom 7x. There is no download, no account and no sign-up. Press Play and the game loads right on this page.
